You can get up close and touch - but no climbing. There are lots of things to see and do at Avebury which is administered by the National Trust.
Admission to the stones circle is free, car parking charge for non National Trust members.
This is a great place for picnics and if you like mountain biking the adjoining Ridgeway is a great place to go.
