DIVE INTO THE DEEP!

Join in a touchpool session & meet smaller animals native to UK shores such as starfish and sea urchins (every half past the hour between 10.30am - 4.30pm). Watch the divers feed and maintain animals during the daily dive show (at Endless Ocean Monday, Wednesday & Friday with maintenance dives Tuesday & Thursday, Lagoon of Light Saturday and Amazon Flooded Forest on Sunday). See the penguins being fed each day at 11:30am & 3:30pm. Finally walk through our underwater tunnel before taking a ride in our glass lift through the 10m Endless Oceans exhibit. Keep your eyes peeled for a sneak peek behind the scenes!
ACCESSIBILITY - The Deep is fully accessible for people with disabilities, with gently sloped walkways throughout. Mobility aids & wheelchairs are also available free of charge should they be required. FACILITIES - The Deep has its own café serving a range of homemade hot/cold meals, snacks and drinks. In peak times, a snack bar serving light bites is available halfway round the attraction. We also offer indoor and outdoor picnic areas for those who wish to bring their own food.
BUY YOUR TICKETS ONLINE - Save 10% by booking your tickets online at www.thedeep.co.uk before you visit. All you need to do is bring the confirmation number with you, and this will be exchanged for your tickets. The Deep also accepts Tesco Days Out vouchers, which form part of the Tesco Clubcard scheme. Don’t forget to sign up to the Day Plus Pass scheme which allows FREE return visits to The Deep for 12 months. This is included in the normal price of a ticket. EXPERIENCE DAYS - DEEP EXPERIENCE Various dates available The Deep 1 to 1 Experience is a morning with a difference for those with a love of the marine world. Get hands on and help The Deep crew with a series of day to day activities as well as seeing behind the scenes. Experience days are ideal for youngsters with a passion for the marine world or those looking at getting into a Marine Biology career, but are also perfect for adults with an interest in aquaria. JUNIOR EXPERIENCE DAYS - 29 August and 24 November 2018 Is your child aged between 8-11 with a passion for marine animals? Then join us for a fun-filled experience day where your youngster can help carry out some of The Deep's daily activities. Your child will be part of a group of up to 8 children, who will spend the morning with a member of The Deep's crew, allowing them to get hands on within the attraction. Activities will include: Seeing behind the scenes of our river turtle display and Discovery Corner plant room Taking part in a nori feed at the Lagoon Cleaning the exhibit acrylic Taking part in a slime workshop and touch pool session Invertebrate handling Question time with a guide Trying on a dive kit and watching the dive show Experiences start at 8:30am and finish at 2:30pm. Places cost £32.50 per child, full payment is required at time of booking. Spaces are limited. Please note: adults are not required to accompany children on the day. QUIET DAY (12 September) Experience The Deep in a more tranquil environment on our upcoming Quiet Day. The audio will be turned down for those who find the sounds distracting and the lights will be brighter to make our information more clear. Audio and Braille guides are also available free of charge at reception, the timetable below includes all BSL signed presentations and shows throughout the day! Normal admission charges apply and there is no need to book. Please note, there will be no school visits on this day.
BEACH CLEAN (22 September) The Deep is on the lookout for volunteers for our second beach clean of 2018 at Hessle Foreshore. This event is part of the Marine Conservation Society's (MCS) Beachwatch, a nationwide annual beach clean-up and litter survey organised which takes place on beaches all over the UK. Each piece of litter collected is identified, weighed and recorded before being carefully disposed of. The data collected goes towards the Marine Conservation Society’s national survey, which is subsequently used to help raise public awareness of the impact of litter on the environment. Suitable for children aged 3 upwards, this is a great way of helping your local environment. Under 16's must be accompanied by an adult at all times and will receive a free goody bag for taking part. Please make sure to wear comfortable clothes and sturdy footwear on the day. SLIME TIME! It’s all about slime this summer at The Deep from 21 July to 2 September. Join us at 11am, 1pm and 3pm for ‘The Slime Show’ where your little scientists can help with exciting experiments as we explore which animals use slime in their everyday lives. There’s props galore, and of course, lots of gooey green stuff. And if that’s not enough, you can even make your own pot of slime (12-4pm) to take home for just £1 – the question is, what colour will yours be? Don’t forget to take a picture at the mad scientist photo board too and share it with us at #thedeephull.
LITTLE NIPPERS (Tuesday mornings – term time only) Don’t get crabby, come to little nippers at The Deep! Join us on Tuesday mornings 9:30am-11:00am for our fun-filled discovery and play sessions for children aged 2 and under. Enjoy sing-a-long and story time in the soft play area along with a light snack. Adults pay £13.50 for 12 months entry, plus £1 per session for your little nipper! This includes all visits to the aquarium too! No need to pre-book simply turn up on the day! TRANQUIL TUESDAYS (1st Tuesday of the month, term time only) Join us on the first Tuesday of each month for Tranquil Tuesdays (4 May, 5 June, 3 July, 4 September and 2 October, 6 November, 4 December). From 3pm until closing the lights will be brighter and the audio turned down, creating a tranquil environment for our visitors. This event is perfect for those who prefer to visit during a quieter and more peaceful environment. Everyone is welcome to attend. Normal admission rates apply and there is no need to book. We have a range of aids available to hire free of charge for visitors with access needs including ear defenders, Braille guides, large print guides, MP3 audio guides, international language leaflets, rollators, electric mobility scooters and wheelchairs.
HOME EDUCATORS DAY (Thurs 6 Sept – 2018) Following the fantastic success of The Deep’s Home Educators Days in 2017, we are pleased to announce we are holding another event at The Deep, Hull, specifically for children who are educated at home. This will take place on Thursday 6th September from 9.45am. This year’s event theme is Pole To Pole. We will be travelling into a world of ice and snow and meeting some peculiar penguins and the different animals that share their habitat along the way. Visitors will also be able to see our 5,000 residents including a colony of Gentoo penguins, spectacular sharks, rays and Europe’s only pair of green sawfish, whilst exploring the story of the world’s oceans through a unique blend of stunning marine life, fun interactives and audio-visual presentations.   If you would like to book a place, please contact 01482 381000.
SHARK EGG CASE HUNT (28 July) Join us at Fraisthorpe beach for our third Egg Case Hunt of the year! Taking place along the East Coast, these free events are being delivered in partnership with the Shark Trust and Yorkshire Wildlife Trust in a bid to involve local people in shark conservation. Ideal for children aged 3 upwards, you can support marine life whilst enjoying a great day out. All participants are asked to wear suitable and sturdy footwear - wellies may be required. The event is expected to finish by 3pm. All under 16's must be accompanied by an adult. There is a cafe and toilet facilities onsite. Car parking is £3.
