North Yorkshire

North Yorkshire is the largest county in England and has the range to match: a world class free museum in York, the Dales, the Moors and a coastline with proper seaside towns on it.

We list 55 attractions across the county. The National Railway Museum in York costs nothing and takes a full day, Studfold near Pateley Bridge is the outdoor adventure trail for younger children, and the heritage railways run through the Moors to Whitby.

York is easy by train and the city centre is walkable. For the Dales and the Moors you need a car, and the coast roads are slow in August.
