Glasgow does free museums as well as Edinburgh and has more room to spread out, which suits children. It is also the easiest city in Scotland to get around by train.
We list 29 attractions in and around the city. Finlaystone Country Estate has the woodland play and the walled garden, the Scottish Wildlife Trust reserve at the Falls of Clyde is a short run out to New Lanark, and Rollerstop covers a wet afternoon.
The subway and the suburban rail network reach nearly all of this. For the country estates you will want the car.
