The Highlands and Islands cover an enormous area, and the honest advice is to pick one base and work outwards rather than trying to see all of it in a week.

We list 35 attractions across the region. The Highland Museum of Childhood at Strathpeffer is a good short stop, Raasay Outdoor Centre runs the activity days off Skye, and the Blackhouse at Arnol on Lewis shows how people actually lived here.

Distances are the thing to plan around. Ferry timetables change by season, so check the day before rather than the week before.
