Chippenham. Malmesbury, Calne
Chippenham, Malmesbury and Calne sit close together in north Wiltshire and are easy to combine into one day. Chippenham Museum is free and central, and John Coles Park has play areas, a splash pad in summer and space to picnic. Malmesbury has its abbey and the Abbey House Gardens beside it. Calne is the starting point for Bowood, whose adventure playground is among the biggest in the region. Castle Combe and Lacock, both nearby, are unusually well preserved villages and cost nothing to walk around.
