Margate

Margate has been rebuilt as a family destination around its main asset, a wide sandy beach in a sheltered bay. Dreamland, the restored amusement park, sits just behind the seafront and is the biggest draw. Margate Caves are a genuine curiosity, a chalk cavern carved with figures and reached by a stairway, and they suit a shorter visit. Dane Park gives green space and play areas away from the front, Hartsdown Leisure Centre covers swimming, and Pegwell Bay Country Park towards Ramsgate is good for birdwatching and walking.
