Maidstone

Maidstone sits on the Medway in the middle of Kent and makes a practical base. Leeds Castle just outside the town is the main draw, with a moated castle, maze, grotto, birds of prey and enough grounds for a full day. Maidstone Leisure Centre covers swimming and Vinters Valley Nature Reserve gives woodland and meadow walking close to the centre. Maidstone Museum is free and central. The town is also within half an hour of Rochester, the North Downs and the Kent orchards for a longer trip.
