Situated a short stroll from the marina and city centre, it is in the perfect location for visitors to enjoy Hull and all it has to offer. We are home to almost 3,500 fish including UK’s only pair Green sawfish, spectacular sharks and rays; not forgetting our snakes, invertebrates, turtles and colony of Gentoo penguins! Journey through the story of the world’s oceans, travelling through a unique blend of spectacular marine life from tropical waters to the cold Antarctic seas. Take a walk through our underwater tunnel to admire the stunning marine life swimming right above you, before taking a ride in our glass lift through the 10m Endless Oceans exhibit. Keep your eyes peeled for a sneak peek behind the scenes! There are a host of activities happening at The Deep every single day to enhance your enjoyment and knowledge of our residents. These include: daily dive show, touchpool sessions and penguin feeding time presentations.
ACCESSIBILITY - The Deep is fully accessible for people with disabilities, with gently sloped walkways throughout. Mobility aids & wheelchairs are also available free of charge should they be required. FACILITIES - The Deep has its own café serving a range of homemade hot/cold meals, snacks and drinks. In peak times, a snack bar serving light bites is available halfway round the attraction. We also offer indoor and outdoor picnic areas for those who wish to bring their own food. All you need to do is bring the confirmation number with you, and this will be exchanged for your tickets. The Deep also accepts Tesco Days Out vouchers, which form part of the Tesco Clubcard scheme. EXPERIENCE DAYS - DEEP EXPERIENCE Various dates available The Deep 1 to 1 Experience is a morning with a difference for those with a love of the marine world. Get hands on and help The Deep crew with a series of day to day activities as well as seeing behind the scenes. Experience days are ideal for youngsters with a passion for the marine world or those looking at getting into a Marine Biology career, but are also perfect for adults with an interest in aquaria. LITTLE NIPPERS (Tuesday mornings – term time only) Don’t get crabby, come to little nippers at The Deep! Join us on Tuesday mornings 9:30am-11:00am for our fun-filled discovery and play sessions for children aged 2 and under. Enjoy sing-a-long and story time in the soft play area along with a light snack. Adults pay standard admission for 12 months entry, plus £1 per session for your little nipper! This includes all visits to the aquarium too! No need to pre-book simply turn up on the day! Please see our website for a full list of dates.
TRANQUIL TUESDAYS (1st Tuesday of the month, term time only) Join us on the first Tuesday of each month for Tranquil Tuesdays. From 3pm until closing the lights will be brighter and the audio turned down, creating a tranquil environment for our visitors. This event is perfect for those who prefer to visit during a quieter and more peaceful environment. Everyone is welcome to attend. Normal admission rates apply and there is no need to book. We have a range of aids available to hire free of charge for visitors with access needs including ear defenders, Braille guides, large print guides, MP3 audio guides, international language leaflets, rollators, electric mobility scooters and wheelchairs.
JUNIOR EXPERIENCE DAY (VARIOUS DATES AVAILABLE THROUGHOUT THE YEAR) - Is your child aged between 8-11 with a passion for marine animals? Then join us for a fun-filled experience day where your youngster can help carry out some of The Deep's daily activities. Your child will be part of a group of up to 8 children, who will spend the morning with a member of The Deep's crew, allowing them to get hands on within the attraction. Activities will include: Seeing behind the scenes of our river turtle display and Discovery Corner plant room Taking part in a nori feed at the Lagoon Cleaning the exhibit acrylic Taking part in a slime workshop and touch pool session Invertebrate handling Question time with a guide Trying on a dive kit and watching the dive show Experiences start at 8:30am and finish at 2:30pm. Places cost £32.50 per child, full payment is required at time of booking. Spaces are limited. Please note: adults are not required to accompany children on the day. CSI Seashore March 30, 2019 - April 28, 2019 Join The Deep’s special agents as they take a trip to our native coastline to find out what can be uncovered at the seaside. Help the team solve the crimes as they go and you might even earn a CSI badge of your own! Lend a hand in our interactive presentation at 11.30am and 3.30pm, follow Inspector Sharky's trail (available all day) and make your very own sand art (charge applies for our craft activity).
Endangered Species Weekend Dates:May 18, 2019 - May 19, 2019 It’s time to explore the work of the IUCN… the what, we hear your cry? Find out how the animals living in our oceans are classified and which are the ones identified as needing help. Take part in our interactive show at 11:30am and 3:30pm and see if you can help Captain Redlist save the animals.
Sense-ational Sharks Dates:May 25, 2019 - June 2, 2019 Dive into The Deep and learn more about super shark senses this May half term! Join us in the Endless Oceans Gallery at 11am and 3pm for our interactive shark senses work shop and discover the amazing senses that sharks have used to survive for over 450 million years. You can even try your hand at hunting for prey just like a shark too! Visit Craft Corner from 10am to 4pm to make you own finger puppet, choose from a shark, stingray or sawfish. Don’t forget to follow the sense-ational shark trail as you go round the aquarium to be in with the chance of winning a prize. Find out more about the Shark Trust #Move4Makos campaign and show your support for ending uncontrolled shark fishing by moving 1 mile. Our guides can give you some great ideas on how to do this when you get home. You could help save the fastest shark in the ocean.
Beach Clean September 21, 2019 The Deep is on the lookout for volunteers for our first beach clean of 2019 at Hessle Foreshore. This event is free to attend. This event is part of the Marine Conservation Society's (MCS) Beachwatch, a nationwide annual beach clean-up and litter survey organised which takes place on beaches all over the UK. Each piece of litter collected is identified, weighed and recorded before being carefully disposed of. The data collected goes towards the Marine Conservation Society’s national survey, which is subsequently used to help raise public awareness of the impact of litter on the environment. Suitable for children aged 3 upwards, this is a great way of helping your local environment. Under 16's must be accompanied by an adult at all times and will receive a free goody bag for taking part. May Bank Holiday (4-6 May) Colours of the ocean - Is it better to blend in or stand out? Can looks be deceiving? Discover the wondrous world of colour and vision beneath the waves this May Bank Holiday. Take part in the interactive presentation at 11am and 3pm, and find out how marine animals use colour to impress, hunt and protect themselves. Join the Guides at craft corner and colour in your own flashy fish to turn into a badge from 11am to 4pm.
