Situated a short stroll from the marina and city centre, it is in the perfect location for visitors to enjoy Hull and all it has to offer. We are home to over 5,000 animals including UK’s only pair Green sawfish, spectacular sharks and rays; not forgetting our snakes, invertebrates, turtles and colony of Gentoo penguins! Journey through the story of the world’s oceans, travelling through a unique blend of spectacular marine life from tropical waters to the cold Antarctic seas. Take a walk through our underwater tunnel to admire the stunning marine life swimming right above you, before riding back to the surface in our scenic glass lift through the 10m Endless Oceans exhibit. Keep your eyes peeled for a sneak peek behind the scenes! There are a host of activities happening at The Deep every single day to enhance your enjoyment and knowledge of our residents. These include: daily dive show, touchpool sessions and penguin feeding time presentations.
ACCESSIBILITY - The Deep is fully accessible for people with disabilities, with gently sloped walkways throughout. Mobility aids & wheelchairs are also available free of charge should they be required. FACILITIES - The Deep has its own café serving a range of homemade hot/cold meals, snacks and drinks. In peak times, a snack bar serving light bites is available halfway round the attraction. We also offer indoor and outdoor picnic areas for those who wish to bring their own food. All you need to do is bring the confirmation number with you, and this will be exchanged for your tickets. The Deep also accepts Tesco Days Out vouchers, which form part of the Tesco Clubcard scheme. VIP DEEP EXPERIENCE This VIP session is perfect for adults and youngsters (age 8 and above) who have a passion for the marine life and an ideal taster for those looking at getting into a Marine Biology. Go behind the scenes and get hands on with our team of experts to help feed our grey reef sharks, conduct water tests in our lab, tour behind the scenes in our Aquarist department, view the nursery tanks and culture areas, meet and feed the animals at Discovery Corner, explore above Endless Oceans and see if you can spy a turtle and scatter feed some of our largest residents. You can even try on some dive kit – the perfect photo opportunity! Packages for 2 people cost £165, for 3 people £235 and for four people £305. One participant MUST be an adult if anyone under the age of 18 is taking part.
LITTLE NIPPERS (Tuesday mornings – term time only) Don’t get crabby, come to little nippers at The Deep! Join us on Tuesday mornings 9:30am-11:00am for our fun-filled discovery and play sessions for children aged 2 and under. Enjoy sing-a-long and story time in the soft play area along with a light snack. Adults pay standard admission for 12 months entry, plus £1 per session for your little nipper! This includes all visits to the aquarium too! No need to pre-book simply turn up on the day! Please see our website for a full list of dates.
TRANQUIL TUESDAYS (1st Tuesday of the month, term time only) Join us on the first Tuesday of each month for Tranquil Tuesdays. From 3pm until closing the lights will be brighter and the audio turned down, creating a tranquil environment for our visitors. This event is perfect for those who prefer to visit during a quieter and more peaceful environment. Everyone is welcome to attend. Normal admission rates apply and there is no need to book. We have a range of aids available to hire free of charge for visitors with access needs including ear defenders, Braille guides, large print guides, MP3 audio guides, international language leaflets, rollators, electric mobility scooters and wheelchairs.
JUNIOR EXPERIENCE DAY (VARIOUS DATES AVAILABLE THROUGHOUT THE YEAR) - Is your child aged between 8-11 with a passion for marine animals? Then join us for a fun-filled experience day where your youngster can help carry out some of The Deep's daily activities. Your child will be part of a group of up to 8 children, who will spend the morning with a member of The Deep's crew, allowing them to get hands on within the attraction. Activities will include: Seeing behind the scenes of our river turtle display and Discovery Corner plant room Taking part in a nori feed at the Lagoon Cleaning the exhibit acrylic Taking part in a slime workshop and touch pool session Invertebrate handling Question time with a guide Trying on a dive kit and watching the dive show Experiences start at 8:30am and finish at 2:30pm. Beach Clean September 21, 2019 The Deep is on the lookout for volunteers for our first beach clean of 2019 at Hessle Foreshore. This event is free to attend. This event is part of the Marine Conservation Society's (MCS) Beachwatch, a nationwide annual beach clean-up and litter survey organised which takes place on beaches all over the UK. Each piece of litter collected is identified, weighed and recorded before being carefully disposed of. The data collected goes towards the Marine Conservation Society’s national survey, which is subsequently used to help raise public awareness of the impact of litter on the environment. Suitable for children aged 3 upwards, this is a great way of helping your local environment. Under 16's must be accompanied by an adult at all times and will receive a free goody bag for taking part. Turtle-y Awesome Summer - 20th July - 1st September It’s going to be a turtle-y awesome summer here at The Deep, so make sure you don’t miss out! Get hands on in our very own ‘turtle hospital’ where youngsters can get up close with a giant turtle (a cuddly one, of course) and find out what it takes to look after our flipper-ed friends. Learn all about turtle anatomy and even help the team carry out a turtle health check. Inspect their eyes, nose and mouth, as well as checking their flippers and shell then report back to us on your vet examination form. Take part in the turtle trail and find out about more about the species that live all around the world and the challenges they face. Enjoy interactive presentations from our guiding team at 11am, 1pm and 3pm and get your face painted in Craft Corner from 11am to 4pm. Plus we will be giving you the chance the put your questions to our Turtle Keepers via our Facebook page each week. So get your thinking caps on! Visitors to the turtle hospital will also receive exciting discounts in the shop, so it’s the perfect time to take home your own cuddly turtle to care for.
Quiet Day - 12th September Experience The Deep in a more tranquil environment on our upcoming Quiet Day. The audio will be turned down for those who find the sounds distracting and the lights will be brighter to make our information more clear. Home Educators' Day 11th September Take action and learn how animals are affected by plastics in our seas both locally and around the world. Help your youngsters become our eco-warriors. Perfect for children aged 3-18 who are taught at home, there are a variety of workshops to choose from. Visit www.thedeep.co.uk to see the workshop options. Places cost £7 per child and include 1 workshop (additional workshops cost £3). Adult places are £10.50 each for a single visit, or you can upgrade this ticket to a years entry for an extra £3.50. Children must be accompanied by an adult at all times. Adults with a current Day Plus Pass can use this for free entry on this day (you will be asked for name and post code at time of booking).
